Dom is a Dad in 4-Minute Long ‘Fast and Furious 9’ Trailer

Dom is a Dad in F9
(YouTube/Universal)

The Fast and Furious movies aren’t just movies anymore, they’re events. That’s not even hyperbole. Today they held an actual concert in Miami, complete with Cardi B, Wiz Khalifa, Charlie Puth, Ozuna and Ludacris, to celebrate the debut of the trailer for the next installment in “the Fast Saga.”

For the trailer.

Which is nearly 4 minutes long, features cast members the series has accumulated from previous installments – Charlize is back, Helen Mirren is back, Jordana Brewster is back, it even showcases the surprise return of someone who wasn’t supposed to be able to return because who cares about logic or reality or physics at this point (spoiler: it’s Emperor Palpatine) – and showcases more of the absurd, and I mean ABSURD, stunts and action sequences the series has become known for.

It used to be about street racing. Eventually, Dom and his family became international superspies. Not they’re basically full-fledged superheroes. The last movie featured a nuclear submarine. This one has a stealth bomber?

The wrinkle this time has to do with the series overarching theme – no, not how indestructible Vin Diesel is despite being 3 feet tall and matched up against The Rock (who seems absent from this one, probably because of Hobbs v Shaw and also the fact that he and Diesel have had some issues!) – of family. What happens when family isn’t really family?

Dom is a dad now, which may or may not factor into the movie at all (the trailer treats it as a prologue) and, surprise surprise, he also has a brother who somehow went unmentioned for the previous 8 installments! He’s played by John Cena and he’s angry at Dom for reasons that are yet to be revealed and probably won’t make much sense when they are, but hey, there’s a car with a rocket strapped to it!

These movies are the definition of stupid fun. I hope they make 20 more.

‘The Office’ Superfan Recreates Dunder Mifflin out of Lego

Dunder Mifflin Lego Recreation
(Reddit/Fanofthebrix)

There are fans of The Office, and then there are fans of The Office. The former might have a favorite Dwight quote, some fervent opinions on the final two seasons, and a handful of personality quiz completions under their belt.

Then there are the real fans. The fans who have a favorite Hank the Security Guard quote, maintain meticulous episode rankings and tattoo Jello-ensconced staplers on their feet.

(Reddit)

We believe that Reddit user u/Fanofthebrix belongs to the latter category, as he recently assembled a spot-on replica of the whole Dunder-Mifflin office out of LEGO. Apologies to all the feet that just instinctively bunched up.

Finally finished!!!! The Office LEGO!! With all the minifigures in place this time around. Super proud of this, happy to be done because I get to see it finished but also sad to be done building. Gonna go through and touch things up to make it better if I can but I think it pretty much good to go. from r/DunderMifflin

For those of you who get your Netflix streaming plan money’s worth in Office rewatches alone, the accuracy of this should floor you. Just marvel at this near-perfect recreation of the Dunder Mifflin floor plan: you got the reception desk…

You got the conference room…

Oh, and there’s Michael’s office!

And the gang’s all there. You got Jim and Pam here. They’re both doing sales, so one can only assume they’re both miserable with LEGO wedding shit.

(Reddit)

You got Michael, wielding his iconic coffee mug.

(Reddit)

And it wouldn’t be an Office without the dark and mysterious Creed Bratton on quality assurance.

(Reddit)

Look! There’s even a Dundie on Michael’s desk!

(Reddit)

Excellent work u/Fanofthebrix. We anticipate your painstaking LEGO reproduction of the Dunder Mifflin warehouse.

What’s Up With This “Star Wars: Underworld” Footage That Just Surfaced?

Star Wars Underworld Clip?
(YouTube/• holonet •)

Well, it’s a day of the week, which means that some new Star Wars stuff has surfaced online for all of us to pounce on like a bunch of crackheads let loose in Oakland. Surely proving that Disney has “ruined the franchise” and “franchise fatigue” is setting in, people are freaking out over a snippet of unverified footage from a TV show that does not even exist.

The clip is supposedly test-footage for Star Wars: Underworld, George Lucas’ original proposed TV show set in a galaxy far, far away. The clip is roughly five minutes of a Jedi-looking lady securing Star Destroyer blueprints, and then getting into a gunfight that looks like it was choreographed by a high school theater kid. Being a former high school theater kid, I don’t mean this to be insulting. As my mom would say, “it looks like y’all had lots of fun.” The rest of the video is essentially behind-the-scenes footage of the same thing we just watched, like an unproduced DVD extra. Ah, DVDs. Hey, remember the past?

Anyway, check out the clip below, and then let’s break down what we’re looking at.

Okay, so my first guess was that this was actually discarded footage from some unfinished video game in the vein of Dark Forces II. The live-action cut scene genre of action-adventure games was a relatively short-lived staple for many of us, and this scene looks like the kind of adventure Kyle Katarn would be all over in heartbeat.

After a little digging though, it looks like this is actually legit test footage for the unmade Underworld project…but that doesn’t mean it was made by LucasFilm.

About ten years ago, George Lucas wanted to make a show that focused on the seedy underbelly of the Star Wars galaxy. Not the gleaming jewel of the Old Republic seen in the prequel movies, but the gritty, lived-in world that we’ve seen more recently in Rogue One and The Mandalorian. (And, you know, the original Star Wars movies.) Ole’ G.L. said the Underworld project would have a “noir” vibe, and there’s a real cyberpunk Blade Runner energy happening in the footage here. But rather than looking for clues about the story, the clip is better viewed as a trial for the filming technique.

See, the show Lucas had in mind would have spanned 100 hour-long episodes, each one costing an insane amount of money to produce. To bring down costs, LucasFilm needed alternatives to standard TV production, and the footage in this video was a possible solution.

As you can see in the latter half of the video, the set is a combination of practical scenery and CGI effects. Back in 2005, this was common for an epic space movie, but a little unheard of on a TV show scale. This footage was created by Stargate Studios, which didn’t work on any of the Stargate movies or shows, but is a well-regarded FX company that has created special effects for shows like The Orville, Nightflyers and more. This whole shebang has actually been available on their website for ten years, now – it’s not even a new thing. They were testing how financially viable creating full sets in CGI would be, as that would allow production costs south of eleventy bazillion dollars.

While there’s certainly some promise here – this may look a little bit like an Activision joint, but for test-footage, it’s honestly amazing. But it wasn’t good enough for George Lucas at the time, and the show was scrapped when he began working on treatments for a sequel trilogy of movies before selling the franchise to Disney. Still, this is Star Wars, and so no one -or in this case, nothing- is ever really gone. The first live-action Star Wars show to actually make it to air fulfills the promise of Underworld‘s premise. And, not only that, the filming technique is a more technologically advanced version of what the Stargate Studios footage was going for.

So Underworld may have been a bust, but the thing about George Lucas is that he’s always ahead of his time. We all gave the dude a lot of flack for the prequels at the time, and I still say the scripts were…rough, but the man is truly a DaVinci of movies. He may be remembered as the guy who created Star Wars, but make no mistake, George Lucas is a pioneer of modern filmmaking.

Hundreds of Strangers Show up to Mourn Veteran With No Next of Kin

Hundreds attend veteran's funeral
(YouTube/WGN News)

John James Murphy often spoke of his time in the Air Force with the staff at River View Rehab in Elgin, Illinois. It was there that 71-year-old Murphy spent his final few years, recounting stories of his time in Vietnam where he was awarded several medals for his service.

Murphy mentioned a falling out with his family to one of the staff at River View, but didn’t like to discuss it at length. “I had to honor his wishes. He said he didn’t want to talk about it. I was OK with that,” recalled Pawn Thammarath, from River View. So when he passed back in December, there weren’t family members to notify, and worse, no one left to mourn a man who served his country with pride.

Thankfully, as is now typical of these situations, the internet and community members united to ensure that Murphy would have the ceremony he deserved. Local funeral home owner Dan Symonds, a veteran himself, made sure Murphy would be remembered for his service.

Symonds told the Daily Herald that ensuring veterans get the send-off they deserve often means doing whatever you can to make it happen, including searching for family and contacting Veteran affairs to ensure proper military burial. “Everybody deserves a decent burial and these guys, it doesn’t matter where they served, even if they didn’t see combat, they deserve to be honored.”

Symonds’ plea for attendees would not go unanswered. On Wednesday, almost 500 individuals were on-hand and waiting to pay their respects. From Veterans that came from miles away, to local police and firefighters who lined the streets, John James Murphy had a line that stretched around the building, all there to pay their respect to a man many had never met.

“The outcry of love and support have been overwhelming,” Symonds said. While he’s happy that so many showed up, it’s those who didn’t that has Symonds making one more request. “We want and hope and we pray that maybe, by some chance, his daughter or his grandchildren realize that he’s passed.” The funeral home is holding onto the flag awarded to family after the passing of a veteran with hopes to return it to them someday.

Father Figures: Sacrificed So Much

“This picture is of my husband Jordan and our daughter Palmer.

At 24 weeks, I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and sent from our local hospital in Loveland, CO to the university hospital in Denver, in case our baby was born soon.

Jordan came to the hospital every single day after work and stayed with me every single night. He would wake up and drive the hour back to northern Colorado to work for the day then be right back as soon as his day was done.

He sacrificed so much for us. In the meantime he had taken a job back in the Midwest where our families live and we were in the process of selling our house and buying a new one. Jordan dealt with everything while I was on bed rest.

He truly took care of absolutely everything while I couldn’t do anything. He even got our dogs back to Iowa to be with family so they could get more attention while we were stuck in antepartum.

We were transferred at 30 weeks back up to northern Colorado to a hospital in Ft. Collins to be closer to home for our inevitable NICU stay. At 34 weeks our baby was born weighing 5 lbs 4 ounces and so, so perfect.

Jordan still went to work every day and was at the hospital as much as possible. He was our rock through the 10 week antepartum stay and 3.5 week NICU stay.

He takes care of me and Palmer every single day and we wouldn’t be anywhere without him. Just wanted to share our story with you all because he truly is a perfect dad!

MambaOnThree Fund
(MambaOnThree)

Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow, released a heart-wrenching statement on Instagram Wednesday about the horrific tragedy that occurred last weekend when her daughter and husband, along with seven others, were killed in a helicopter crash in Southern California.

Bryant also mentioned how devastated they were for the other families who lost loved ones and how they will forever share their pain. She announced the family’s Mamba Sports Foundation has set up a special fund to help support the other families affected by the tragedy.

The MambaOnThree fund was set up “to honor our Team Mamba family”, according to Bryant, and donations can be made (eventually) at MambaOnThree.org. She also said The Mamba Foundation will help further Kobe and Gianna’s legacy in youth sports. The foundation has provided diverse sports opportunities to underserved California communities as well as additional funding for underserved athletes.

Vanessa changed her IG to a touching photo of Kobe and Gigi and she posted a beautiful photo of the Bryant family in the post, which thanked everyone for the outpouring of support and prayers. “We definitely need them,” she said.

My girls and I want to thank the millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time. Thank you for all the prayers. We definitely need them. We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my adoring husband, Kobe — the amazing father of our children; and my beautiful, sweet Gianna — a loving, thoughtful, and wonderful daughter, and amazing sister to Natalia, Bianka, and Capri. We are also devastated for the families who lost their loved ones on Sunday, and we share in their grief intimately. There aren’t enough words to describe our pain right now. I take comfort in knowing that Kobe and Gigi both knew that they were so deeply loved. We were so incredibly blessed to have them in our lives. I wish they were here with us forever. They were our beautiful blessings taken from us too soon. I’m not sure what our lives hold beyond today, and it’s impossible to imagine life without them. But we wake up each day, trying to keep pushing because Kobe, and our baby girl, Gigi, are shining on us to light the way. Our love for them is endless — and that’s to say, immeasurable. I just wish I could hug them, kiss them and bless them. Have them here with us, forever. Thank you for sharing your joy, your grief and your support with us. We ask that you grant us the respect and privacy we will need to navigate this new reality. To honor our Team Mamba family, the Mamba Sports Foundation has set up the MambaOnThree Fund to help support the other families affected by this tragedy. To donate, please go to MambaOnThree.org. To further Kobe and Gianna’s legacy in youth sports, please visit MambaSportsFoundation.org. Thank you so much for lifting us up in your prayers, and for loving Kobe, Gigi, Natalia, Bianka, Capri and me. #Mamba #Mambacita #GirlsDad #DaddysGirls #Family ❤️

The Rock Opens up About How His Dad Shaped His View on Fatherhood

RIP Rocky Johnson
(Instagram/therock)

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently suffered the loss of his dad, a decorated professional wrestling icon in his own right, and he recently spoke at length about his complicated relationship with the man and what he meant to his own development as a dad.

The Rock had a sit-down with the queen of celeb sit-downs herself, Oprah Winfrey, as part of her arena interview series (which is featuring various megastars at each stop along the way).

The Rock spoke about how his relationship with his dad wasn’t always perfect, the regrets he felt about things he could’ve/should’ve said, but also said that his dad made him a better man. He said his dad preferred the “tough love” style of parenting (is that really a surprise to learn about a professional athlete from the 80s?) and that he still feels a strong connection to his dad, even after his passing.

“The day he died, that night I went to bed, I felt so grateful and moved,” he told Oprah. “I realized, ‘Oh wow, I have a new relationship with you. Clean slate. No regrets. No pain. No complications. Just me and you.”

It wasn’t all introspection, as Johnson is currently on a major publicity tour for his new tequila, Teremana. So, of course, you knew that was going to come up, as he and Oprah shared a taste on stage. Oprah raised a glass to the late Rocky Johnson, praising him as a dad who helped make The Rock who he is, and wishing him well for this new chapter of his relationship with his dad.

Perhaps the most poignant part of the entire interview was when he talked about his relationship with his own children (he has three daughters) and how his relationship with his dad shaped his views about the type of dad he wanted to be.

“My dad loved me with the small capacity with which he was capable of. With my daughters, I want to be as full and as present as I can,” he said. “I want my daughters to know I love them truly unconditionally. As I told my 18-year-old daughter, Simone, ‘I love you. I’m going to tell you I love you every day.’ But I also told her, ‘I’m unattached. You don’t have to text me back. It’s without condition.’”

The thousands in attendance showed a lot of love for The Rock, and the love the son still had for the dad was clear. He said it best on Instagram shortly after his dad’s passing:

“You lived a very full, very hard, barrier-breaking life and left it all in the ring. I love you Dad and I’ll always be your proud and grateful son.”

View this post on Instagram

I love you. You broke color barriers, became a ring legend and trail blazed your way thru this world. I was the boy sitting in the seats, watching and adoring you, my hero from afar. The boy you raised to always be proud of our cultures and proud of who and what I am. The boy you raised with the toughest of love. The intense work. The hard hand. The adoring boy who wanted to know only your best qualities. Who then grew to become a man realizing you had other deeply complicated sides that needed to be held and understood. Son to father. Man to man. That’s when my adoration turned to respect. And my empathy turned to gratitude. Grateful that you gave me life. Grateful you gave me life’s invaluable lessons. Dad, I wish I had one more shot to tell you, I love you, before you crossed over to the other side. But you were ripped away from me so fast without warning. Gone in an instant and no coming back. Im in pain. But we both know it’s just pain and it’ll pass. Now I’ll carry your mana and work ethic with me, as it’s time to move on because I have my family to feed and work to accomplish. Finally, I want you to rest your trailblazing soul, Soulman. Pain free, regret free, satisfied and at ease. You lived a very full, very hard, barrier breaking life and left it all in the ring. I love you dad and I’ll always be your proud and grateful son. Go rest high. #ripsoulman #rockyjohnson 🐐

Lethal Weapon 5 Might Happen Even Though Cast Is Too Old for This Shit

Lethal Weapon 5
(Warner Bros)

I guess I should stop being surprised. After all, there are only so many franchises out there, and judging by the way things have been going the past few years, it makes sense that every single one – even the ones that seemed long dead – are getting resurrected one way or another.

The list is so long it’s not even worth typing it out. Suffice it to say that if there’s a series of movies you enjoyed over the past 30 years and it has yet to be revisited one way or another – whether via a sequel (National Treasure), a prequel, a reboot (Die Hard), or a TV series – just you wait. Odds are, it will be back soon enough.

Today’s example is the buddy cop movie that started them all: Lethal Weapon.

This is a rare case, because not only was there already a sequel that came too late and didn’t work, there was also a recent TV series. That sequel hit theaters in 1998, co-starred Chris Rock and Jet Li, and was not good. The TV show ran for three years, with Damon Wayans as Murtaugh and a couple of guys as his partner (after the first co-lead was a little too Riggsy for comfort). Not only that, original star Mel Gibson has had his fair share of issues in the 21st century, though he was at the Oscars last year, so all seems to be forgiven, somehow.

So much so that he and Danny Glover are supposedly being recruited for this new sequel by producer Dan Lin, who also hopes to get original director Richard Donner – who hasn’t directed a movie in 4 years – back on board. Lin recently appeared at a producer’s roundtable, where he spoke about his plans for the project.

“We’re trying to make the last Lethal Weapon movie. And Dick Donner’s coming back. The original cast is coming back. And it’s just amazing. The story is very personal to him. Mel and Danny are ready to go, so it’s about the script.” About which there are no details because it has yet to be written.

Not only is Mel Gibson a bit of a dicey bet to lead a wannabe blockbuster, Danny Glover is 73! I’m gonna go out on a limb and say he is definitely too old for this shit. And so, for that matter, is Chris Rock, who was positioned to potentially take over in Lethal Weapon 4, but the movie didn’t do well enough to revive the series. Previous cast members also included Rene Russo, last seen in Avengers Endgame, and Joe Pesci, who came out of retirement for Best Picture nominee The Irishman and is probably not too keen on playing fast-talking Leo Getz in Lethal Weapon 5.

But stranger things have happened, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see. To be honest, I’d rather see a sequel to My Cousin Vinny!

Emilio Estevez Is Returning for ‘The Mighty Ducks’ Reboot on Disney+

Estevez is Back for Mighty Ducks
(Disney)

Here we go again, another reboot!

This is one the 90s kids will remember. Especially 90s kids with Disney+, because that’s where it’s going to air.

The new streaming network is fast at work adding to its already formidable collection of content, which includes the Disney animated classics, Pixar’s nearly unassailable lineup of movies, the Mandalorian and the rest of the Star Wars galaxy of shows and films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Puppy Dog Pals, and more (all for just $6.99/month). That “and more” is now set to include a brand new revival of the Mighty Ducks movies, this time as a TV series, complete with original star Emilio Estevez as Coach Bombay.

According to MovieWeb, the series will follow a 13-year-old who wants to start a new hockey team after he gets booted from the Ducks junior division. The series will presumably follow the boy as he recruits players for his squad, and finds a coach to lead them.

So far the only casting news available involves Estevez’s involvement, so it’s safe to say the team has already found its coach. Though securing his involvement will surely have its share of obstacles. Hopefully, they won’t involve Coach’s issues with alcohol, which is how he ended up coaching the Ducks in the first place, after getting a DUI and being ordered to lead the skaters onto the ice.

There is some news on the show’s characters though, including the following descriptions in MovieWeb’s report: Nick, a shy kid who always plays video games; Nick, who likes to pretend his has his own imaginary TV show; Mary, described as the popular girl both on the team and at school; and Lauren, a social outcast who “likes to wear wings and a cape at school and pretend she’s a fairy magician.”

It’s yet to be seen if anyone else from the original series will return, perhaps as parents of a new generation of players. But one cast member who likely won’t be returning is Shaun Weiss, who played goalie Greg Goldberg – sadly, he’s fallen upon some tough times.

I’m also gonna go out on a limb and say that Josh Jackson won’t be back, although now that The Affair is over, Pacey may be free, at least until the inevitable Dawson’s Creek reboot. (Please God no.)

No word yet on when the new squad of Ducks will hit the ice.

Son Glues Dad’s Belongings to Ceiling—Adds More Each Day He Doesn’t Notice

Son Glues Dad's Stuff to Ceiling
(Reddit / SeamanTheSailor)

Dads are known for a lot of wonderful traits. Attention to detail is not usually one of them.

To prove this point, one guy decided to test his dad by swiping his belongings and seeing just how long it would take for him to notice they were missing. For every day it went unnoticed, he would take another item.

Upping the ante even further, the devious prankster decided he would hide the items in plain sight… on the ceiling.

(Reddit / SeamanTheSailor)

“I stuck my dad’s glasses to the ceiling. For every day he doesn’t notice I will add another of his possessions,” wrote Redditor and expert prankster SeamanTheSailor.

One person made the astute remark that his poor dad would probably need the glasses in order to find them, to which the son responded, “They’re his readers, I’m not that evil.”

But this was just the beginning. When day two rolled around, he took a quintessential dad item that he would be more likely to notice: the infamous cell phone belt clip.

(Reddit / SeamanTheSailor)

And yet, the prankster’s dad still remained none the wiser. The stakes would have to be raised once more.

Day three saw a bold addition to the growing ceiling collection thanks to some heavy-duty command strips: a solitary shoe. Sure, dad was bound to have extra pairs laying about, but it’s pretty hard to miss a ceiling shoe.

(Reddit / SeamanTheSailor)

But wouldn’t you know it, dad remained clueless about the elusive ceiling stash.

This called for the big guns. What is something that dads always notice when it’s missing? What’s something so crucial to their happiness and comfort?

(Reddit / SeamanTheSailor)

Yes, the TV remote.

Treasured by all and already elusive in its own right, this was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. When day five rolled around, the prankster found only the remnants of adhesive left on the ceiling where his growing collection had been.

“Well boys it was a good run, but all things must come to an end,” he captioned the final photo of the series.

(Reddit / SeamanTheSailor)

Thankfully, pops seemed to take the prank in stride, clearly appreciating it for what it was.

“He called me a cheeky c***, then we had a beer together and I [showed] him all the comments on my posts.”

Honestly, we can’t imagine a better ending.

Watch the Pringles Super Bowl Ad Featuring Rick and Morty

Rick and Morty Pringles Commercial
(YouTube/Pringles)

Sometimes, when the Super Bowl matchup is boring and/or the Patriots are involved, there’s not a lot to recommend the game, and all you can do is crack a few beers and pray the commercials are good. This year, the matchup is a great one, and the game should be exciting and competitive. Plus, no matter what happens, Tom Brady won’t win! So that’s good.

Even better? One of the commercials will feature Rick and Morty.

Remember a few months ago when news broke that Pringles was making a limited edition Rick and Morty-themed pickle-flavored chip called Pickle Rick? Well, not only did they follow through with chips based on a singular episode of the insane, hilarious cult cartoon, they are promoting those chips in the biggest way possible: with an ad during the Big Game.

“With alternate universes taking a front seat in pop culture with television and movies, we love how ahead of trend Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland were when developing the concept for the show,” said Gareth Maguire, senior director of marketing for Pringles. “The Pringles brand aims to do the same with flavor development and product innovations. As a result, when identifying a partner for our ad campaign this year, their forward-thinking attitude combined with the show’s popularity and younger audience made this partnership a natural fit.”

The ad has rolled out already, in that annoying way that Super Bowl commercials are now spoiled online well before the game hits the airwaves, and you can watch it below. In the ad, Rick and his granddaughter are watching a commercial for Pringles when Morty strolls in and starts stacking different flavors of the potato chip, the way the ad had suggested. Rick immediately snuffs out the situation, determining that Morty is not his grandson at all, but a robotic facsimile designed to push Pringles on them, and that he and Summer are trapped in a Pringles commercial.

The spot, which will air during the second quarter, is about as true to an episode of the show as a 30-second commercial for potato chips could be. Fans should be satisfied that their favorite show didn’t totally sell out (or sell-out for much, based on Rick’s sly meta-dig at the start of the spot), and anyone who’s never seen the show should at least be intrigued?

The commercial is brief and seems to hint at a larger storyline, so maybe there will be more to this campaign, but for now, feast your eyes on it:

Australian Soldiers Fighting Fires Spend Downtime Cuddling Koalas

Aussie Soldiers Feed Koalas
(Facebook/Australian Army)

Among those affected by the devastating bush fires nationwide is Australia’s wildlife, including thousands of precious koalas. Thankfully, many of them have found refuge at the Cleland Wildlife Park. So who’s stepping up to the plate to help feed and cradle these poor koalas?

The Australian Army, that’s who.

(Facebook)

In their efforts to put an end to these horrific wildfires, the Australian government has called on 3,000 soldiers from its 16th Regiment Emergency Support Force to aid firefighters in containing the blaze and assisting those displaced by it. Many of these soldiers have been working tirelessly for weeks on end.

(Facebook/Australian Army)

Heartwarming images of the soldiers nuzzling the swaddled koalas were posted to the Australian Army’s Facebook page.

“16 Regiment Emergency Support Force has been using their rest periods to lend a helping hand at the Cleland Wildlife Park,” explains the caption. “Supporting our furry friends during feeding time and by building climbing mounts inside the park. A great morale boost for our hard-working team in the Adelaide Hills.”

(Facebook)

Some soldiers even helped build a garden sanctuary for them!

(Facebook)

The Federal Environment Minister says koalas are now facing endangerment in some areas, and the Australian government has pledged $50 million to aid in wildlife recovery efforts. In times like this, it’s good to know that truly kind and compassionate folks are still out there, tackling ecological disasters and bottle-feeding the furry angels displaced by them.

Hank Schrader Is Back in the Trailer for Better Call Saul Season 5

Hank is Back in Better Call Saul
(YouTube/AMC)

Recently, a rumor was going around about a new Breaking Bad spin-off, about Walt Jr. taking over the Heisenberg business. Being that this news was being peddled by Walt Jr. himself, aka RJ Mitte, one would be advised to take it with a grain of salt. Because despite previous success with a Breaking Bad sequel movie about Jesse Pinkman and that other, actual Breaking Bad spin-off, Better Call Saul, it seems unlikely that Vince Gilligan will go back to Albuquerque with another member of the White family.

So we’ll have to satiate ourselves with frequent BB marathons on AMC, and the return of the aforementioned spin-off, Better Call Saul, which returns next month for its fifth season. The prequel series tracks Saul Goodman before he became Saul Goodman, and when it was announced it seemed as unlikely as RJ Mitte’s pipe dream. But four seasons in, the show has proven itself to be both a separate animal from Breaking Bad, and one entirely worthy of the franchise.

Bob Odenkirk is remarkable as Jimmy McGill, a con man turned noble – or at least trying to be noble – lawyer turned, eventually, defense attorney for the Albuquerque underworld. At the end of last season, Jimmy finally shed his birth name and took on Saul Goodman full-time, a move series creator Vince Gilligan himself was surprised took this long. The slow burn of the show has allowed Jimmy’s character to come into full-focus and simultaneously allowed us to watch as Mike Ehrmantrout, Gus Fring’s right-hand man, also slowly became enmeshed in the New Mexico drug trade.

The two stories have been running parallel to each other, with only the occasional overlap, but as we enter season five, things seem to be catching up to the Breaking Bad timeline. Especially since it was recently announced that a 13-episode season 6 will be Better Call Saul’s last.

The season looks to up the ante on the beef between Gus and the Salamancas, continue to track Jimmy’s relationship with Kim, and will even feature an appearance from Dean Norris as Hank Schrader, Walter’s DEA agent brother-in-law.

Check out the trailer. Season 5 premieres on AMC on February 23rd.
