“‘I wish they were called the San Jose Pink Fluffy Peaceful Unicorns so I wouldn’t think of all that scary shark stuff,’ my son said as we took our seats to watch his favorite hockey team, the San Jose Sharks.
It was a father/son road trip, an extra special getaway for just me and my seven-year-old to make big signs, put on fake beards, and cheer for a team far away from home. It wasn’t cheap, but it was worth it.
He wants an Xbox for Christmas, his brother wants an iPhone, I want more adventures with my sons. I want a Facebook wall filled with photos of him in fake beards, jerseys that are too big for him, and passports filled with stamps from far away lands.
Presence over presents, and okay, maybe a pink, fluffy, peaceful unicorn wearing a Sharks jersey might find its way under our tree too.”
