Nothing beats a new album release by your favorite band. Even if that band doesn’t exist. Pop culture is littered with fake music groups, but hey, they music is real. Everyone from Spinal Tap to Andy Samberg have released actual albums, and Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga had that whole-ass moment singing the Shallows at the Grammy’s, so sometimes fake bands even have real success.
Can Mouse Rat do the same?
If you were a fan of Parks and Rec, you’ll remember Chris Pratt’s Andy Dwyer was originally the frontman of the band that made L’il Sebastian a legend in our time with 5,000 Candles In the Wind – “Here’s the part that hurts the most/Humans cannot ride a ghost.” Well, good news, as the band’s been hard at work since P&R went off the air, and are dropping a greatest hits album with 15 tracks, including “Catch Your Dream,” featuring the one-and-only Duke Silver.
The Awesome Album is being released by Dualtone Records, in partnership with (fictional) Tom Haverford’s (also fictional) 720 Entertainment.
“Any creative business coming out of Pawnee is tied to Haverford,” deadpanned Dualtone president Paul Roper. “The man is an idea factory.”
While it’s all fun and games, this isn’t just a gimmick. Included on the album are two tracks from Scott Tanner of fellow Pawnee band, Land Ho…who is actually Jeff Tweedy of Wilco.
I just hope the album gets a better reception than Spinal Tap’s Shark Sandwich did.
