Dad Pays for Stranger’s Cake on His Late Daughter’s Birthday

Earlier last week, a woman went to a bakery to pick up an extravagant Peppa Pig cake for her niece’s birthday. When she arrived, employees informed her a stranger had already paid for the cake. But this was no normal, run of the mill random act of kindness.
They explained to her the man had lost his own daughter when she was only 8 days old, and he had stopped by the bakery to buy the cake for another girl because he never had the chance to buy one for his own.
He left a note with the cake that left the bakery staff in tears. It read:
Dear Birthday Girl. In honor of what would have been my little girl’s 1st birthday, I have chosen to pay for your birthday cake. I am unable to buy my daughter a cake of her own today, but I hope you enjoy this one and have a fantastic birthday. God bless.
-Hannah’s daddy.
The woman, Leah O’Brien, posted about the situation on Facebook in an effort to find and thank the man for the overwhelming gesture.
The BBC did find the anonymous stranger, who said he just wanted to ‘share a bit of good’ to honor his daughter’s memory.
“I did it for Hannah,” he said.
