Meet the Heroic Teen Who Jumped out a Drive-Thru Window to Save a Child

All too often, stories depict younger generations as self-centered and even lazy. This is not one of those stories.
This is the story of Logan Simmons, a Chick-fil-A employee who recently made headlines after diving out a drive-thru window to rescue a 6-year-old boy whose mother came running to the window after discovering her child choking.
The teen, who speaks very casually about the harrowing experience, told news station WSB-TV that jumping out the window to save the young child was âthe quickest option. He was right there.â
His mother, Teri Simmons, says âIâm amazed he didnât panic. As his mother, I would have panicked. Iâd have been running around probably going âOh my god what do we do?â But Logan wasted no time, leaping out the small window and using his pocket knife to free the child who had somehow become entangled in his seatbelt. His mom only hearing about the heart-stopping event in passing after his shift. “He’d been home for a couple of hours and he said nonchalantly, âI saved a kidâs life today,â and I was like âWhat?â”
The story has since spread like wildfire, with people around the country watching the security footage released by the restaurantâs management â the mother of 6-year-old whose life he saved reaching out afterward to again thank him for his quick thinking and action.
While that story alone would be noteworthy, Loganâs tale goes much deeper. At just 8-years-old, Logan lost his own father to cancer. Hearing about Logan and his situation, childrenâs charity November Smiles reached out to the teen. The nonprofit organization was formed after two siblings experienced grief of their own, losing both their mother and father just a year apart, both during the month of November. Now, brothers Patrick and Matt Klug raise money to help others who have lost a parent to find their very own November Smile.
Though Logan has courage and composure to spare, one thing he’s still lacking is his own transportation.

âWe know what you did, obviously. So, we were looking into doing something for you,â Matt told Logan in a video the charity posted on Twitter. âWe found out that you lost your dad when you were young â so we realized we definitely have to do something for you.â The nonprofit is presenting Logan with a check towards his car fund as well as setting up a GoFundMe where others can donate as well.
