“I am lucky enough to be able to say: I have the best dad.
When I was growing up, he worked multiple jobs at a time to support our family, while my mom was unable to work due to illness. After working long days, he would take me and my sister to our games and singing lessons, helped us with our homework, and even make our lunches for the next day.
Two years ago, my fiancé and the father of my two children suddenly passed away. Since then, without any hesitation, my dad has stepped up to help me raise my children.
At a time when he was supposed to be an ‘empty nester’ and approaching retirement, he now changes diapers, helps with baseball games, never has any spare time for himself, and never complains.
When I work night shift, my dad sleeps over and bed shares with my son who keeps him awake most of the night. While I’m working days, he’s picking the kids up from daycare, getting their supper ready, bathing them and getting them ready for bed.
For as long as I can remember, my dad has been my best friend. I feel an abundance of sadness that my children will not grow up with their father, but they are so incredibly lucky to have mine as their Papa.”
