“On the morning of January 18th, my husband Dan started his workday like any other. He logged on, answered a few e-mails, and made plans to connect with his boss later that morning.
It was MLK Jr. Day, so my daughter was home from daycare. I was almost 38 weeks pregnant and also had the day off, so I was having a slow start when I started to feel unwell. I called the OB and was advised to come get checked out at the hospital.
Shortly after hanging up with the doctor’s office, things changed. DRASTICALLY.
Dan had called his mother to come over and stay with our daughter while we got checked out at the hospital. She was just a few minutes away when we realized that the baby was coming and coming NOW.
In the span of 7 minutes, Dan brought our daughter to our neighbor’s house, dialed 911, and got step-by-step instructions on how to deliver our son. He was coming fast and furious and at this point was already crowning.
Dan has no medical background and has not even earned an honorary medical degree watching Grey’s Anatomy like I have. He is a man who works with numbers and spreadsheets all day!
But he thrived outside of his normal element and proved he has nerves of steel, keeping me calm and successfully delivering his own son.
How many people can say they have done that?”
