There are “dream jobs,” and there are dream jobs. One is an empty platitude you use to convince yourself you really love marketing, and are “thrilled” to have the opportunity to spend your days in beige conference rooms. The other is a job that doesn’t seem like it should even exist. Like playing video games all day. Only that actually is a job, and it’s a job Playstation is hiring for right now.
Video games are no longer just for the youth. We know this better than most, as we started a gaming league just for dads (and dad-adjacent people). Playing video games with your kids is one of the best bonding experiences you can have, and it can even be good for their health! And now, playing video games can be your job.
OK, this is the point where we mention there are caveats. Unfortunately, no one is sending you money to sit around your basement destroying people in Fortnite and Mario Kart all day. The first big caveat is location, the current round of hiring requires that you’re in Liverpool. Hmmmm. Packing up the family and moving to another country to play video games for a living? Boom. Done.
But this is where things get tricky. You also gotta know some languages. The job postings are for localization testers, so you’re playing a lot of video games to make sure the audio and text make sense in the other language you hypothetically know.
You need to be fluent in English plus one other language (at least) and a passionate gamer (I mean, who would apply for this as just a “job”?). It helps to know multiple platforms and know your way around MS Office (which is pretty much a requirement of any adult).
Ok, so this particular round might be far fetched, but this type of employment is obviously possible – so we should all keep the dream alive.
Spruce up those resumes and be ready to start your new career as a professional PlayStation-er once the call goes out to your neck of the woods.
