Ben Affleck is a tabloid magnet. The actor is constantly all over the news, whether it be for winning an Oscar for screenwriting or for dating Jennifer Lopez or for going to rehab or for winning an Oscar for Best Picture or for marrying Jennifer Garner or for going to Dunkin Donuts or for starring as Batman or for dating Jennifer Lopez or for talking to Howard Stern, the media can’t get enough of the Boston-bred star.
Recently he caused a kerfuffle when some comments about his drinking and his failed marriage to Garner were taken out of context. Affleck and Garner have three kids together and divorced a few years back after Affleck’s well-publicized issues with alcohol. But despite the controversy around their marriage, Affleck insists that his children are his priority and that the more time he spends with them, the happier he is.
He went on Good Morning America to promote his new movie, the George Clooney-directed The Tender Bar, and discussed the things he’d said on Stern, making it clear that he has nothing but respect for his ex-wife, and that despite all his accolades and time in the limelight, it’s his kids that fill him up.
“My life is better and I am happier the more I am around my kids.”
He explained that that’s all that matters.
“The only biography that needs anything is written on the hearts of your kids,” Affleck said about his children – 16-year-old Violet, 12-year-old Seraphina, and 9-year-old Samuel.
“I will be long dead and someone will ask my kids what was your dad like and that is when I will know what my life was worth.”
The actor got very candid about his goals, and they don’t include Hollywood success. Instead, they’re the same goals every parent has.
“We all want to pass on the best of ourselves to our children. I don’t care who you are, I’m quite sure you feel at some point in your life you’ve taken missteps, nobody wants to transfer that to our children and that is a real task that everybody faces, whatever those issues are.”
