14-year-old Carter has had a difficult few years. Carter’s family lost his baby sister to cancer just a few short years ago. On Carter’s 12th birthday, his mother April surprised him with a puppy — a little pug named Piper.
The two were nearly inseparable for the next two years until just before Thanksgiving this year, Piper went missing. After going out for her nightly tinkle, Piper disappeared. The family was devastated. Carter and his other sister Natalie spent the next three weeks searching for any sign of their beloved pup.
After weeks had passed, the family began to fear the worst. That is until April received a call from the Genesee County Animal Shelter. They had found Piper safe and sound and were holding her at the facility. April rushed over to pick up Piper and loaded her up for a very special ride.
Carter, who was still in school, had no idea that Piper was en route. His mom filmed the incredible reunion and posted it to Facebook. The clip has taken off for obvious reasons. Fair warning, you’ll want to grab the tissues.
Piper and the entire Licata family are thankful the entire ordeal is over and likely looking forward to a happy holiday together with plenty of treats for everyone under the tree. As for the rest of us, we can all watch this awesome reaction over and over again and that, friends, is the gift that keeps on giving.
Happy Holidays to everyone, but especially to Piper and family.
