When Cobra Kai started on YouTube a few years ago, it was billed as Johnny Lawrence’s redemption story. We were finally going to get a full picture of a young kid The Karate Kid painted as, give or take a congratulatory word to Daniel at the end, a one-dimensional villain. And through the first three seasons of the show, we’ve gotten to see a three-dimensional Johnny, and we’ve learned the ways in which he’s gotten screwed, by life, by Daniel, and, perhaps most of all, by his former Sensei.
In the third movie, Johnny is nowhere to be seen, and it’s Daniel that Sensei Kreese terrorizes, with the help of his old Vietnam buddy, Terry Silver. Now, in season 4 of Cobra Kai, Silver is back to help Kreese finish the job, but this time Daniel and Johnny are united. They’ve merged their formerly opposed dojos and are prepping to battle Kreese, Silver, and the new generation of bullies they’re breeding at the All-Valley tournament.
The new trailer promises plenty of fireworks, between Kreese and our heroes, but also between Johnny and Daniel themselves, who have more in common than they thought, but who aren’t exactly the best of friends. They will need to combine their styles and overcome their petty squabbling – and their sadistic enemies – to protect their kids and win the battle for the soul of the valley.
This is gonna be good!
