Harrison Ford is remembering his on-screen Dad Sean Connery in a recently released statement about the legendary actor’s passing. Sure, Connery was best known as James Bond, but he was awesome as Ford’s dad in ‘Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade’, released in 1989. The movie is clearly Connery’s best ‘dad’ role, and Ford remembers the iconic actor fondly:
“He was my father…not in life…but in ‘Indy 3’. You don’t know pleasure until someone pays you to take Sean Connery for a ride in the side car of a Russian motorcycle bouncing along a bumpy, twisty mountain trail and getting to watch him squirm. God, we had fun – if he’s in heaven, I hope they have golf courses. Rest in peace, dear friend.”
To be fair, this scene does look like a lot of fun.
And, if you want some of the best Connery-Ford moments in the film, here ya go:
‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’ is absolutely in the pantheon of movies dads love, and Connery was a major reason why. George Lucas, the series creator of Indiana Jones, also released a heartfelt statement about Connery.
“He will always hold a special place in my heart as Indy’s dad. With an air of intelligent authority and sly sense of comedic mischief, only someone like Sean Connery could render Indiana Jones immediately into boyish regret or relief through a stern fatherly chiding or rejoiceful hug. I’m thankful for having had the good fortune to have known and worked with him.”
2020 sucks and took a lot of loved ones from us, but at least Connery more than got to make his mark on the world while he was here.
