Fans are out of control.
A few years after mobs of dissatisfied audiences launched petitions to re-do Rian Johnson’s divisive The Last Jedi and re-do the universally derided Game of Thrones final season, they actually scored a victory with Warned Bros. The studio was persuaded to allow Zack Snyder to complete his version of Justice League and air all four hours of it on HBO Max. This has only emboldened DC fans, who are trying to find a way for Snyder to finish his planned trilogy.
Usually content to stay above the fray, Marvel fans are suddenly starting to make some noise of their own.
MCU fans in Los Angeles have erected a billboard asking for Tony Stark to be resurrected. Apparently, despite Robert Downey Jr’s superhero going out in as honorable a way as possible, literally sacrificing himself to save the world at the end of Avengers: Endgame, some fans are upset that their favorite character is gone.

This seems a weird choice. It’s not like Endgame was botched, or the character of Iron Man, whose first movie launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe and led to a decade of dominance at the multiplex that has now ported over to streaming, was poorly realized. Everyone loves RDJ’s portrayal, and also realized that he’d run his course. At the very least, it’s understandable for RDJ to want to stop playing the role. The dude used to play things like Chaplin, for Pete’s sake. Let the man live!
The billboard is so bizarre that IGN even went to make sure it was real and not an internet hoax. Alas, it is.

The whiny fanboy look is pretty unbecoming for fans of the MCU, who pretty much have nothing to complain about. The Marvel universe is still going strong on both the big screen and the small, and while Tony Stark will be missed, it’s exciting to see where they’re going next.
Let Iron Man take a break for a few years at least, sheesh.
