Iconic actress Diana Rigg, known most recently for her Emmy-nominated performance on Game of Thrones, passed away Thursday at the age of 82. Rigg had a long history of playing badass characters, as she rose to fame playing secret agent Emma Peel in the 1960s spy show “The Avengers.” Rigg was also a Bond girl, and the only one Bond married – she played Mrs. Bond in the 1969 thriller “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” According to her agent, she died at home surrounded by family after succumbing to cancer that was diagnosed in March.
Despite how you feel about the ending, Game of Thrones was (for much of the run, anyway) an incredible show. And Rigg’s Olenna Tyrell may have been her finest performance, as she nailed her role as a sharp-tongued matriarch. The tributes to the Queen of Thorns poured in on social media.
Be a dragon.
The realm will always remember Diana Rigg.

2 years ago I sat next to Diana Rigg at a Tonys party. She was in My Fair Lady–at 80. She told me it was a great role because she could get tons of reading done btw scenes. Then she gave me her phone and said, “Find Uber on this and get me the hell out of here.” RIP to a great.

Sad to hear about the passing of the great Diana Rigg, who is arguably the best Bond co-star in the entire series. From ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’: https://t.co/ok2rqIIlL6

Funny, feisty, beautiful, intelligent & gifted. A whole generation fell for her when we first saw on screen in The Avengers. It’s the end of an era – and a special life. A sad day. RIP Dame Diana Rigg. https://t.co/2ezhNbVKyT

Rigg was a delight in Thrones, but she also shined in her other TV work and many think she had one of the best performances of any Bond co-star in the franchise history.
RIP Diana Rigg. The most authentic Bond relationship, in OHMSS. She helped induce a massively under-rated performance from George Lazenby – as close to the Ian Fleming books as the 007 films got. A terrific actress with memorable turns in Mother Love, Avengers, Doctor Who etc etc https://t.co/N1dUvzbYuY
