Lydia Motchan celebrated her 100th birthday in the coolest way possible, by getting 100 sliders from White Castle. Both Lydia and the infamous fast food chain both turned 100 this year, so it was only natural that the superfan embraced the slider chain to celebrate the occasion.
“The wonderful aroma of White Castle in an automobile is something quite delightful,” she told the Today Show. “There’s nothing quite like it. I’d like to bottle it as a perfume and keep it, put it behind my earns. Well, maybe not.”
She explained her love of White Castle began in her childhood, as the tiny burgers were a treat for the family during the Great Depression. She still thinks about her dad bringing them home in a paper bag. The chain gave her more than just the sliders for the big day though, they also included a plaque engraved with their well wishes on her “momentous milestone” and thanked her for being a loyal craver.

At the party, she did share her 100 sliders with friends and family. And she encouraged people to grab an extra cheeseburger in life, and to not always worry about eating perfectly. But this celebration wasn’t just a birthday gimmick. A few years ago, when she was in the hospital recovering from a surgery, she had a nurse run out to get her a dozen sliders.
She is also aware of the reputation White Castle slider carries. “We used to call them belly bombers,” she said. “They bomb some people’s bellies, but never bombed mine. They always hit my stomach in a welcome way.”
This is the type of wisdom we must seek out and cherish from the older generations. You get to a certain age and you say heck with it, let’s get a hundred cheeseburgers, and that’s just an OK thing to do. We need to embrace Lydia’s wisdom and passion, and normalize ordering 100 sliders for your birthday at ANY age.
Let the belly bombing commence.
