The past month has been a roller coaster for Aaron Morris and his beloved service dog, Jolene. Aaron and Jolene have been in each other’s lives for over six years, and their incredible bond is undeniable. The duo had recently moved from Michigan to Waynesville, North Carolina and were out running some errands when their world was turned upside-down.
Aaron decided to run into a Dollar General briefly, leaving Jolene for a few short minutes in the air conditioned car. He imagined Jolene would be safe in the parking lot directly outside of the store, but tragically, Aaron didn’t realize he was being followed.
The Haywood County Sheriff’s Office later reviewed security footage from the gas station across the street, revealing a suspect eyeing Aaron’s car before following him to the Dollar General. While Aaron was inside, the thief stole his car along with its contents. In an instant, Aaron lost his car, wallet, phone, medication, and his beloved dog Jolene.
Aaron felt lost without his best friend
His possessions didn’t matter. The thief could keep his car and the rest of his belongings, Aaron just needed Jolene to come home safely. Days later, just as Aaron started to lose hope, a good samaritan dropped a friendly dog at the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society. The dog was found wandering the streets, but she was no stray. The dog’s pink collar informed the shelter staff that she had a name, “Jolene.”
Since Aaron’s phone had been stolen, calling the number on the sweet pup’s tag led the shelter workers nowhere. They posted a photo on social media, and before long, the pair was reunited. In a touching video, Aaron walks into the Humane Society to bring Jolene home. After a tentative sniff, Jolene’s entire body wags with recognition.
“I got you,” Morris told Jolene in the emotional video. “And I’ll never let you go.”
