The most enjoyable battle of the summer has taken another turn as the calendar moves to Fall. Foo Fighters frontman and dad rocker Dave Grohl was challenged to a (virtual) drum battle by a 10-year-old musical prodigy. And because he’s awesome, he accepted.
After ceding round 1 to the young star, Grohl came back strong for round 2, by writing young Nandi Bushell her own theme song. It was a pretty rocking response and escalated the battle to the next level. And now Nandi has answered with her own original song written for Grohl.
Bushell posted the video on twitter and on her popular YouTube page, saying:
“My Grohl. The song you wrote for me was truly, truly EPIC! You really are LEGENDARY! I wrote a song for your to say THANK YOU! It’s called ‘ROCK and GROHL, The EPIC Battle’! I hope you love my song as much as I love your song for me.”

This is fun! This is like what the internet should be! Instead of constantly doom-scrolling through terrible news, worse takes about the news, and then bad-faith arguments that go nowhere but last forever. We need more drum battles between celebs and kids!
Nandi really rocks out in her song, in which the prodigy not only sings but plays guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards. Her chorus seems like a pretty strong mantra for the budding star, as she sang “Rock ‘n’ Roll’s my love / Rock ‘n’ Roll’s my soul / Rock ‘n’ Roll will help me change the world.”
After she finished, she stares down the camera and declares herself the victor, saying “Checkmate.”
…but not so fast! Grohl responded to the video saying he may be down, but he is NOT out, so stay tuned.
.@Nandi_Bushell….I’m down, BUT I’M NOT OUT. Your epic song will definitely be hard to beat, but I think I know just what to do…
