After what seems like years of our spidey sense tingling over the leaks, rumors , speculation, and teases about Spider-Man: No Way Home, tonight we got the official trailer.
And now we get to keep waiting.
It was largely more of the same. After the end of Far From Home, we knew the movie was going to deal with the ramifications of Peter having been outed as Spider-man. After the first trailer, we knew Dr. Strange and the multiverse were involved. Thanks to Alfred Molina, we knew his Dr. Octopus was coming back, and thanks to the first trrailer, we knew Green Goblin was somehow going to factor in. The née trailer gave us some new jokes, and some old villains, but it kept everything else under its hat.
We got by bubkus in regards to the much-rumored appearances of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as the Spider-Mans they played in their separate franchises. We don’t get to see them, but we do get even more villains, with Green Goblin showing his (helmeted) face this time, and Electro and Sandman emerging as well.
It seems pretty safe that, what with Dr. Strange constantly warning about all the other universes bleeding into this one, and the villains from the other franchises playing big roles, other Spider-Men (Spider-Mans?) will show up too. But aside from a black clad one that may be from a different universe or may just be Peter in a new outfit, and some scenes where the other Spideys could be behind those masks (particularly one that echoes Gwen Stacy’s tragic fall in Andre Garfield’s second movie, wouldn’t it be poetic if he redeemed himself by saving MJ?), we haven’t seen them – or the rumored Matt Murdock – just yet.
I guess we’ll have to wait until the movie actually hits theaters to find out!
Until then, check out the new trailer, and pray that Disney has managed to keep some surprises under wraps! Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 22:
