It’s a surefire sign that you are officially old AF when the rock stars you worshipped as a kid suddenly have kids who are rock stars. It happened with Chris Cornell’s kid and now it’s happening with another daughter of grunge royalty. Eddie Vedder’s daughter isn’t a rock star yet, but the 19-year-old Olivia clearly has aspirations. thanks to her dad, she also has a song on the soundtrack for Sean Penn‘s new movie.
Vedder and Glen Hansard wrote the track for Penn’s film Flag Day, which is about a dad and his relationship with his daughter. The Oscar-winning actor and the Pearl Jam frontman have collaborated before, when Vedder provided the soundtrack to Into The Wild. This time, Penn directs himself alongside his daughter, Dylan. Given the movie’s themes, it makes sense for Eddie to get his daughter involved as well.
“After this flood of gorgeous songs from Cat Power, Glen Hansard, and Eddie Vedder, we were just about to do a final mix on the film when Ed sent me Olivia singing ‘My Father’s Daughter,’” Penn explained in a statement. “It became just the perfect cherry on top of the sundae.”
This is her first song, and while she doesn’t sound like her dad, she definitely has some of his talent.
