Prequels aren’t just for the movies!
Not only do we have Disney+’s Obi-Wan series coming next year, which will cover what Ewan Macgregor’s exiled Jedi was up to between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, but there’s also a prequel to one of television’s most popular shows on the horizon. Yellowstone just returned with its fourth season on Sunday, and during the broadcast, they aired a trailer for 1883, the prequel series.
The show looks quite different from the juggernaut that is currently on the air, largely because that one stars Kevin Costner and takes place in 2021. 1883 takes place in, well, 1883, and is about different things. Though I’m sure there will be plenty of infighting and backstabbing and intrigue, just not as much electricity. It stars living cowboy Sam Elliot and country music couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and it promises to connect to the modern-day tale in fun, surprising ways.
Here’s the synopsis:
From Academy Award nominee Taylor Sheridan, co-creator of Yellowstone, 1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land – Montana.
Check out the trailer, and get ready to cowboy up. 1883 hits Paramount+ on December 18th.
