After teasing us for months, EA and DICE have finally revealed the first trailer for Battlefield 2042.
There’s a lot to unpack here, as environmental hazards will now factor into these massive multiplayer battles. At the very end of the trailer, we witness a giant tornado tearing up the city the fight is taking place in. The Battlefield franchise is known for its fully destructible environments, but this is going to take things to a whole new level. We also know that it’ll be releasing on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One & PC on October 22nd.
Alongside new weapons, vehicles, and equipment, the game also introduces “Specialists”, which are inspired by the traditional Battlefield classes but with added abilities. The game brings Battlefield’s traditional Conquest and Breakthrough modes, as well as another unannounced new mode, described as a “love letter to Battlefield fans”.
Unfortunately, if you were looking for a single-player mode, you won’t find that here. In an interview with Eurogamer, Battlefield 2042 Design Director Daniel Berlin mentioned that single-player or battle royale modes won’t be include. It’s going to be a purely multiplayer experience that will support 128-player multiplayer matches on PC and next-gen consoles but will only support 64 players on PS4 and Xbox One. Battle Passes will be added during the first year of its release, but we’re not sure if they’ll cost extra on top of the $80 you’re already paying for the base game.
While this is only a reveal trailer, gameplay footage will be shown on June 13th as part of E3 2021, so be sure to mark your calendars folks!
