Tributes Pour in for Broadcasting Giant Larry King

The legendary broadcaster, dad, and Ghostbusters actor Larry King passed away this weekend at the age of 87 after an iconic TV career. His TV career spanned six-plus decades and he’s remembered as one of the best interviewers of all time. He’s known for interviewing everyone (literally, presidents, actors, newsmakers, and randos of all types) on his show, “Larry King Live”, which he hosted on CNN for more than 25 years.

He retired from the show in 2010, after recording 6,000 episodes. That’s the type of career that makes you as familiar to viewers as the channel itself almost, you’re just a fixture at that point, known around the world.

King was so familiar as an interviewer that he made frequent movie cameos in that role, typically interviewing a major character or commentating on some major event in the movie. He was never better in this role than he was in Ghostbusters.

Not only was King at the top of his game for many years, but he also stayed relevant far longer than most his age. It was just months ago that he was trending for his interview of Danny Pudi and it’s “Larry I’m on Duck Tales” moment.

He was a TV giant, having interviewed more than 30,000 people on his show, ranging from President Ford to Obama (and all between) to random viewers calling into his show. Many of his colleagues and former guests took to social media Saturday to remember the broadcasting legend.

Touching Tributes Poured in for The Crocodile Hunter on Steve Irwin Day

November 15 Steve Irwin Day

14 years ago the world lost Steve Irwin, a man whose larger-than-life personality was outshined only by his enormous heart. The Crocodile Hunter inspired people around the world to take an active interest in animals, and he made wildlife conservation a priority throughout his life. Irwin left a mark on the world of environmental activism, so much so that November 15 has been named Steve Irwin Day. The day was chosen because it aligns with the birthday of one of Steve’s favorite animals, a tortoise from the Galápagos Islands named Harriet who lived to be 175.

The Steve Irwin Day website explains, “As wildlife warriors, we believe that every life is worth rescuing. We believe that anyone can be a Wildlife Warrior. We believe khaki is not just a colour – it’s an attitude! We believe that if you save one – you can save the species. We believe that even kids can make a difference. We believe in living the motto each day – KHAKI IT! Remember, anyone can make a difference. All you have to do is KHAKI IT!”

Tributes to the one and only Crocodile Hunter poured in on this year’s Steve Irwin Day, splashing shades of khaki across social media.

Steve’s daughter Bindi shared a classic picture of her dad

Robert Irwin, Steve’s son reminded everyone to wear their khaki

Pictures of the Crocodile hunter remind us how much he valued both conservation and family

Even The Wiggles showed up to say few words

Animal Planet reminded us that there will never be anyone quite like Steve Irwin

The Australia Zoo, “Home of the Crocodile Hunter,” shared a classic Irwin-ism

Terri Irwin, Steve’s wife, invited us all to celebrate

An Australian YouTuber shared a memory that made us all jealous

Chandler Powell, Bindi Irwin’s husband, shared a beautiful tribute

The Wildlife Warriors, founded by Steve and Terri Irwin, shared multiple quotes about the Crocodile Hunter’s impact

Happy Steve Irwin Day to everyone whose life the Crocodile Hunter touched. And remember, wear your khaki.

Stefon Diggs Has the Best Cleats in the NFL, Hands Down

Custom Cleats

The Buffalo Bills have been one of the bigger surprises of the young NFL season. The Bills are atop the AFC East, especially with Tom Brady out of New England and Pats QB Cam Newton on the COVID-list. And it’s no fluke, Josh Allen has continued to deliver in a huge way and offseason acquisition Stefon Diggs has been THRIVING. As good as he is on the field, though, he’s even better in the cleats department.

Custom shoes are just fun. You should either go full cheap and full comfort, i.e. a classic dad shoe (Nike Air Monarch guy myself) or go with something cool and fun, like Toy Story sneakers or Chewbacca shoes.

Diggs knows kicks. For instance, how can you not love him rocking the Hangover-inspired cleats for the Bills game against Vegas?

Answer: you cannot hate, because the cleats are beyond reproach. And the shoes worked their magic on the field too, as Diggs had more than 100 yards receiving in the Bills 30-23 win over the Raiders.

And Diggs has set the bar high for the custom cleat game in the past, like when he rocked Toy Story cleats.

He even went the distance and broke out meme cleats. It is hilarious (ok, it was hilarious at the time, before the meme became uncool again), and a trend that more NFL players need to embrace fully, instead of wearing the most boring shoes they can find.

If you’re not gonna be scoring touchdowns in some badass dad shoe-inspired cleats, these are a nice alternative.

That’s good enough.

15 Impactful Moments From Peaceful Protests Across the Country

Peaceful Protests Moments

Many images in the news over the past several days have been ones of chaos, violence, and destruction. The grief and anger in response to the unjust killing of George Floyd is palpable. Floyd’s brother Rodney spoke to CBS news, and shared a powerful message with protesters on behalf of his brother. Rodney stated, “I’m asking for peace the same way my brother would ask us to if he could see the situation, if he was here. Peace. Peaceful protests. It is the best option we have to bring justice.”

So this is for you, Floyd—a collection of powerful, peaceful moments from protests across the country.

There was this enormous gathering in Chicago, with residents marching side by side.

Protesters in Augusta, Georgia held signs and embraced.

Long Beach residents sat peacefully in protest of Floyd’s murder.

In El Paso, Texas, protesters held signs with messages like “All lives don’t matter until black lives matter.”

San Diego protesters ask for justice.

Harlem protesters marched for eight peaceful miles.

Brooklyn streets were filled with nonviolent protesters.

David Holt, mayor of Oklahoma City, joined protesters. Perhaps more importantly, he listened.

A diverse group of Sioux Falls, South Dakota protesters unite, powerfully and peacefully.

These LA protesters are even practicing social distancing.

Protesters in Floyd’s home state protest his death peacefully, as he would have wanted.

Elmira, New York protesters carry signs, side by side.

Downtown Indianapolis protesters link arms as they face police officers.

Baltimore protesters take a knee and raise a fist for George Floyd.

And finally, this protester in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, ending a long day of peacefully protesting by giving water to the police. He states, “I’m not mad at you.”

Twitter Parodies Gal Gadot’s Celebrity Sing-Along Video

Gadot's Sing-Along Parodies

Last week, as the Coronavirus took North America by storm, people everywhere were scrambling to do what they could to help. For most of us, that means staying inside and doing some social distancing to help slow the spread of the virus. For many athletes, it involved using some of their generous salaries to help arena staff and other employees make ends meet during the work stoppage.

For a group of celebrities, helping meant… recording a video of them singing John Lennon’s Imagine and posting it to Instagram? Okay, sure.

The video went viral, as any video featuring Wonder Woman, Ron Burgundy, and plenty of other beloved actors is bound to do. But not everyone was a huge fan, with some suggesting celebrities could probably offer more than a viral video cover of a 50-year-old song.

Some people, of course, just wanted to have fun with it, and they set about mocking the Imagine sing-along with videos of their own, including parody versions, some of which are funny and some of which are just plain weird. We’ve rounded up a few!

Here’s your introduction:

This guy switched it up with a different earworm:

This guy raided his costume closet for a version that gets really weird about halfway thru:

One woman mocked Gal Gadot’s project with a vicious cough at the end:

Somebody got their wires crossed and sang the wrong song:

Then some comedians collaborated on a parody version:

And someone found the perfect gif to sum up their problems with the video, featuring Kristen Wiig, one of the participants:

Tweet Roundup: Tributes to the Late Kobe Bryant

Twitter Roundup of Kobe Tributes

When an influential figure dies, a politician or a musician or an actor or an athlete whose career and persona spread far and wide and impacted many people’s lives, the world seems to stop to take a collective breath and honor that person.

This phenomenon was in full effect on Sunday and Monday, once news spread that NBA legend and Lakers great Kobe Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash, alongside his 13-year-old daughter and 7 others. Kobe had a larger-than-life persona and was admired, feared, and respected by countless people inside and outside of the NBA and the sporting world in general. His impact on the culture was made apparent by the outpouring of tributes, including during Sunday night’s Grammy awards.

But nowhere is this better represented than on social media, the most effective tool most of us have for sharing our thoughts and reaching thousands upon thousands of people across the globe with our remembrances of the person who has passed on. All over Twitter, people shared their stories about Kobe, what he meant to them, and how he changed their lives.

We’ve gathered a few.

The high school he attended before leaping straight into the NBA:

Former teammates and rivals:

He transcended his sport to impact football players:

Musical artists:

Subway signs:

ESPN obviously has a lot to say, but sometimes fans say it best:

RIP Kobe.
