A college graduation is just as much for the parents as it is for the students. Not the sitting through a ceremony part, but the whole milestone thing. Parents live for making memories with their kids. That’s something a proud dad and his Texas State University daughter experienced in one of the coolest graduation moments of the year.
Evelyn Hernandez became a first-generation college graduate and her family traveled from Houston to celebrate the moment. However, it’s a Texas State University ritual to jump into the San Marcos River in full commencement attire.
Evelyn was prepared to make the river leap. She did not expect, however, her dad Jose to join her. She jokingly told him to jump with her, and the very proud dad began emptying his pockets. He did not hesitate. And it was a moment the two of them will remember forever.

I’m sure he was already incredibly proud of his daughter to be the first in the family to graduate, and there’s no better way to celebrate than doing something a little crazy.
Evelyn’s post got tens of thousands of likes on social media. She called it her favorite grad moment but was not surprised he made the leap.
“I’m a daddy’s girl,” she said. “This man taught me how to dance before I knew how to talk. So naturally, I love making memories with him.”
As a dad, I know that while she may love it, he loves it more.
