The changing of seasons means the changing of flavors, and nothing has us hitting “add to cart” faster than a good old limited-edition variety of our favorite foods and drinks. Jones Soda has long been the MVP (Most Variable Player) in the carbonated drink game, though their outlandish flavors don’t always make sense. This year, the soda kings are bringing back their strangest, meatiest flavor – Turkey & Gravy (and I cannot stress this enough) Soda.
The Seattle-based company isn’t afraid to shake things up in the flavor zone. They don’t let small concerns like “is this even going to taste good?” or “is any sane person going to buy this?” get in the way of innovation. They’ve thrown caution and focus group responses to the wind, creating a smorgasbord of unusual flavors.
Jones Soda managed to bottle liquid candy corn, peanut butter and jelly, and of course, the classic turkey and gravy flavor. Jones Soda fans go hard, so when Turkey & Gravy Soda disappeared from shelves over a decade ago, it left a bottle-shaped hole in their hearts. This year, however, for a limited time, the gravy gulp is back.
“We’ve taken enough of a breather from this flavor, and we think this is the right time to bring it back,” Mark Murray, Jone Soda’s CEO, and president, told Adweek. “There’s a whole generation—an entire demographic of Gen Z and younger millennials—that’s never tried it, but maybe just heard of it.”
The 2021 edition of Jones Soda’s unforgettable Turkey & Gravy Soda has a brand new (and possibly improved) recipe, which can be found in select retailers across the United States. It’s hard to believe the demand for soda-fied Thanksgiving dinner was high enough to bring it back, but clearly, the mad scientists at Jones Soda are doing something right. And hey, just because we don’t necessarily agree with their choices, that doesn’t mean we don’t respect them.
