Nandi Bushell made headlines during the lockdown with her brilliant remote drum battle against legendary Dad Rock King Dave Grohl. Then came the time when people could play in person again, and the 11-year-old music prodigy got to actually play on stage with the Foo Fighters. Now, she’s moved on to a new celeb pal with a music video featuring another staple of rock n’ roll, Jack Black.
Bushell wrote the new song “The Children Will Rise Up” with Roman Morello, the son of Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine. Nandi is back again KILLING IT on the drums, Roman is shredding on the guitar, with his dad looking on with approval. Jack Black’s cameo at the beginning is fun, and Bushell rocks the vocals as well.
It’s a fun little collab and another great showcase for Bushell’s incredible talent.
The video is about climate change, which is a very hot topic (literally! C’mon, if we can’t throw a pun in here, what kind of dad brand would we be?). So while some folks might not be into the message because they’d rather bury their head in the sand (cool, cool sand), this badass rocker is not afraid to speak her mind.
“I am an 11-year-old girl who understands the simple meaning of science, and while I’m not old enough to vote, I can bring awareness to this problem,” she said. “I hope this song empowers young people to find their voice and inner superpower to speak out. If we can all come together in unity and love, we can tackle humanity’s biggest challenge before it’s too late.”
It’s a fun tune, with a famous dad/son combo joining in, and a Jack Black intro. All in all, probably cooler than most songs written by a kid in middle school.
