We don’t need to get into it. We don’t need to debate who the best basketball player of all time is. We don’t need to have another argument about Michael Jordan never losing in the finals and LeBron playing for multiple teams or MJ playing in a more physical era or James creating super teams.
All we need to argue about is whose Space Jam movie is better.
Unfortunately, we can’t do that yet because LeBron’s movie, Space Jam: A New Legacy, hasn’t come out yet. It arrives later this summer in theaters and on HBO Max, and today they released a new trailer.
The last one gave us the premise – LeBron’s son has been kidnapped by some sort of alien A.I., personified by Don Cheadle, and he and the Looney Tunes gang need to win a basketball game to get him back. And not without a trip through the WB vaults. The new trailer puts the focus on Bugs Bunny and Daffy and Wile E. Coyote and a martini-swilling Granny as we learn their very lives are at stake if King James can’t lead them to victory.
It looks fun, and it looks modern – both in terms of the premise and the animation (the Tunes get an upgrade) – and it has absolutely no bearing on any basketball-related GOAT arguments. Okay?
