Ask a fan of The Wire who their favorite character is, most will probably answer Omar or Stringer. Maybe you get a Lester Freeman or Bodi. But if you ask me, I say “Lieutenant Daniels.” What makes him stand out is the man who plays him, Lance Renneck.
If I were to suddenly go blind, Reddick would still be recognizable merely by his commanding voice and crisp diction. The dude has presence, whether in The Wire, on Fringe, or in the John Wick series. Now he’s bringing that presence to the TV series adaptation of Resident Evil.
Reddick has been cast as Albert Wesker, a power-hungry big bad carried over from the games. You may remember from our previous post that the series promises a unique take on the Resident Evil story, featuring two separate timelines.
Here’s the breakdown:
In the first timeline, teenage sisters Jade and Billie Wesker move to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town. The more time they spend there, they come to realize their father may be concealing dark secrets that could destroy the world.(!)
Cut to the second timeline, well over a decade into the future: there are less than fifteen million people left on Earth…and more than six billion monsters. People and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now thirty, struggles to survive in this New World, while the secrets from her past – about her sister, her father, and herself continue to haunt her.
According to Slashfilm, Reddick joins Adeline Rudolph (Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Siena Agudong (No Good Nick), Paola Nuñez (Bad Boys For Life), Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl), and Ella Balinska (Charlie’s Angels) in the series. So far Reddick is the only confirmed role as Wesker.
Hopefully, this show will make him the next Giancarlo Esposito, a great character actor who uses a villain role to catapult himself to legendary status. Reddick is sure to be as good in the role as the original voice actors were notably terrible!
