“Jeopardy!” is back on the hunt for a new long-term host, after the Mike Richards debacle. The fans want LeVar Burton. But, many wanted him even before Richards was named host. And now, there’s one more fan throwing his weight behind the former Reading Rainbow star, as Ryan Reynolds is showing his full support to Burton as the opportunity opens up again.
Reynolds had already thrown his support behind the former “Star Trek” star, even going as far as snatching him up for a pretty funny commercial. And now, with the groundswell of fan support for Burton getting his dream job begins to mount again, Reynolds posted about it on Twitter, comparing it to the exact thing he went through with “Deadpool.”
“Pretty consistently from 2013 to 2015 Deadpool would explode on Twitter with fans wanting me to play him,” he wrote. “It was awkward because I agreed with them but the studio didn’t see it. Ultimately the fans won and the rest is glorious history. I’m forever grateful. Hi LeVar Burton.”

Burton has said previously he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of fan support, and because of that he feels like he already won. But the Roots star has also been campaigning for the full-time gig, saying he’s had a career “for the ages” but that he’d love to be the full-time host for the show he’s always loved.

We will get a few more weeks of Mike Richards as the host, as he did tape some episodes before finally getting whacked by Sony. Also, Richards is STILL part of the search committee, so I don’t see him picking someone he already passed over. But, there’s still a chance, and as long as there is, the fans, and people like Ryan Reynolds, will still be encouraging for Burton.
