“The Sandlot” is an iconic sports movie for dads. So when one of the stars recreates an epic moment from the movie with his own son, yeah, we’re gonna be there for that. Although, it definitely makes us feel old that the kids from that movie are now dads (even though when we were kids when we watched it, still doesn’t feel like that’s how time should work).
Patrick Renna, who was Ham Porter in the movie, proved that he gets how to handle an injury in the sports world when he called back a part of the movie every fan will remember. He posted the footage on Tik Tok, explaining that ‘Smalls’, AKA his 4-year-old son Flynn, got his first black eye playing baseball.
“And I knew exactly what to do,” Renna said. The video shows a brief shot of the kid’s black eye and then changes to the two of them on the couch. Fans of the movie know what’s coming next, although his kid probably did not, as Renna pulled a steak from out of the frame and slapped it right on the kid’s face.

The kid laughed, Renna smiled and said “If you know, you know.” And, of course, we know, as we remember Smalls’ stepdad using the same treatment for his black eye. It’s a hilarious callback to that moment and proves the movie’s staying power after all these years as it got more than 12 million views on Tik Tok (nostalgia is big, this should surprise no one).
Renna had one of the most memorable roles in the movie, and “You’re killing me, Smalls” may be one of the most iconic phrases in culture from a sports movie.
