MacGyvering reinforcements after babies escape their cribs for the very first time is a jarring warning for everything that’s coming. We try to explain that rules exist for a reason, that they’re in place to keep them safe and (relatively) out of trouble. But oftentimes, kids only really learn lasting lessons from experience. Maybe it’s the experience of getting hurt doing something they were told not to do, or if you’re anything like Jesse, your lesson comes from knowing that your dad is always one step ahead.
When a TikTok dad who goes by the username rhythmlessman caught his son and his friends sneaking out, he decided to have some fun at his son’s expense. Rather than confronting him about leaving without permission, this tech-savvy dad enlisted the help of a Ring camera and his Amazon Alexa to let the teens know the jig was up.
Targeting the window Jesse would have to use upon his return, rhythmlessman rigged his Ring camera and his Amazon Alexa to deliver a blatantly clear message. 15 seconds after the Ring Camera sensed motion around the window, it passed the proverbial torch to Alexa. Jesse, who assumed he was home free, quickly realized he was anything but.
@rhythmlessmanMessing with @shortking.com and friends when they sneak out is fun. Thanks Alexa for the assist! #fypage
As the teens climb through the window, the trap is triggered and the room lights up. Alexa begins to read a message to Jesse from his dear old dad, a message that lets him know he’s very busted.
“Hi Jesse,” Alexa recites. “Next time just say you want to go out so you don’t need to climb through a window with all your friends. I hope you had fun, were safe, and didn’t crap your pants when I started talking.”
“I may go viral on TikTok with this,” the very accurate message concludes. “Thanks for the content.”
The teens completely lose it, laughing and exchanging wide-eyed glances as they freeze in complete disbelief. Jesse, however, has a special message of his own for his clever dad.
“Fuck you” he says, flipping off the camera with both hands before choosing a different strategy. “Wait, wait … I love you,” he adds before returning to his original plan. “I love you … but fuck you.”
Clearly, this father-son relationship is a great one, with both parties taking their Ls graciously. The TikTok video has accumulated over 19 million views so far, and hopefully, going viral made Jesse’s dad think twice about the severity of his punishment. Or maybe, getting busted in front of the world was punishment enough.
