The Super Bowl aftermath became a referendum on the life and career of Tom Brady, and we get it. But in that whirlwind, we missed out on one of the best dad moments after the game. And maybe the best dad moment in the entire sports world in the last year.
Antoine Winfield Jr. is a safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The rookie who was taken in the second round of the draft was a staple of a solid Bucs defense. Not only were they solid, but the defense is also what truly won the Super Bowl. Winfield Jr. had an interception (take that, last year’s Super Bowl MVP and soon-to-be-dad Patrick Mahomes!) and six tackles in the big game.
His dad, Antoine Winfield Sr., had a long NFL career. He started with the Buffalo Bills in 199 and played through the 2012 season with the Minnesota Vikings. During his decade-plus in the NFL (a wonderful career by any measure), he only played in seven playoff games. And he never got to play in a Super Bowl.
After the game, there is no one Jr. was looking for on that field more than his dad. And when they found each other, you can see the extreme joy in both of their faces, as they hug and jump up and down for what feels like forever. As happy as the son is to have just become a world champion, his dad, who never got to that stage, looks even happier.

Winfield did have one other standout, a viral moment from the Super Bowl. When they played the Chiefs earlier in the season, Kansas City receiver Tyreek Hill ABUSED the Bucs secondary, going for 250+ yards to go with his touchdowns. He clowned them and flashed the deuces on his way to a score, so Winfield got the last laugh after shutting Hill down in the big game.
