Days already seem far too short to accomplish everything we need to do, so when the opportunity to help someone in need arises, it’s easy to make excuses. You don’t have to do it alone, though. When a nurse named Kylie Gross saw a small kitten running through traffic on her way to work, she realized may be the only one willing or able to interrupt their morning commute.
Kylie waited for a safe opportunity to retrieve the terrified kitten, then quickly and carefully, she ran back to her car with the kitten safely in hand. With no box or carrier for the frantic kitten, Kylie was forced to let her roam free as she continued her commute to work. Upon arrival, however, her clawed companion was nowhere in sight.
“When I got to work, I couldn’t get her out of the car. I had no idea where she is. I could just hear her meowing,” Kylie told WJCL.
Desperate for a place to hide, the kitten had crawled beneath Kylie’s steering wheel and refused to emerge. Running out of options and late for work, she called the fire department for assistance. Once the firefighters freed the frantic feline, Kylie knew she had to find a rescue to take her in. She contacted Furry Friends Rescue, who kindly agreed to take in the skittish stowaway – as long as Kylie could get her there.
With her patients waiting, the big-hearted nurse called for reinforcements. To make sure the kitten made it to her next stop safely, Kylie did what many of us do when we need a ride ASAP – she booked an Uber. When Uber driver Jose Jimenez arrived, it was immediately evident that he was the perfect man for the job.
“When it comes to saving a little pet like this, I’ll go anywhere,” he said. “Feels great, any time you can save anyone’s life, animal, human, anything, it feels great. It’s always great to save someone’s life.”
The kitten safely arrived at Furry Friends Rescue, and though she was thin, she was in good health. Thanks to Kylie and everyone else who stepped in to help, the young kitten now has the opportunity to live a full and happy life. She also has a new (and very fitting) name – Uber.
