When we think of Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell, we think of comedies. The two actors have been two of the movies most consistently funny, and likable, stars. Whenever they show up onscreen – in movies, on TV, in random sketches – we’re probably gonna have a pretty good time. When they’re together, like in Anchorman, we’re gonna be doubled over with laughter. Even more so when Kathryn Hahn is involved!
Except maybe not with The Shrink Next Door.
AppleTV+’s forthcoming limited series stars the two funnymen as a shrink (Rudd) and his patient (Ferrell) whose relationship takes a turn for the weird. Based on a true story about a therapist who becomes way too involved in his patient’s life, this story seems dark, and while there are sure to be some laughs, they’re probably not the primary goal.
Here’s the synopsis: Based on the true story of Marty and the therapist who turned his life around…then took it over. When he first meets Dr. Ike, Marty just wants to get better with personal boundaries. Over 30 years, he’ll learn all about them—and what happens when they get crossed.
Check out the new trailer. The show launches on AppleTV+ – with the first three episodes – on November 12th:
