A young man named Jack boarded his flight in a busy New York airport, eager to begin his journey home to the UK. Jack held his first-class ticket in his hand, but as he entered the narrow aisle, he walked straight past his roomy seat towards the back of the plane. Upon reaching his destination, a row of seats next to the economy-class bathroom, he approached an elderly woman named Violet. Quietly, Jack escorted 88-year-old Violet to his first-class seat before taking her place towards the back of the plane.
Just hours ago, Jack and Violet were complete strangers. The pair began chatting as they waited for their flight, and as they talked, Jack learned fascinating things about his fellow traveler. He learned that Violet used to be a nurse, that she’d flown to New York to visit her daughter.
Jack listened as Violet revealed that she’d recently gone through knee replacement surgery and that it was her dream to one day fly at the front of the plane. With his own first-class ticket in hand, Jack made a decision. Flying first-class wasn’t out of the ordinary for Jack – either way, he got to his destination. But for Violet, traveling first-class would be life-changing. So, Jack decided, she should get to have that experience.
Flight attendant Leah Amy shared the touching story of her “two favorite passengers EVER” on Facebook, a post that quickly went viral for its wholesomeness. Leah detailed Jack’s generosity, and the moment he walked Violet to her new seat.
“He then sat on the row of seats directly next to the economy toilets and never made a peep or asked for anything the rest of the flight. No fuss, no attention, literally did it out of the kindness of his own heart, no one asked him too.”
Violet, on the other hand, was having the time of her life. She embraced all of the perks her upgraded seat had to offer, befriended the in-flight staff, and made sure to document her thrilling journey.
“You should of seen her face when I tucked her in her bed after supper,” Leah continued. “She said her daughter won’t believe her, and wanted a ‘selfie’ to prove it.”
And man, Violet got those selfies. Truly an unforgettable day for everyone involved, all thanks to the kindness of a stranger.
