When the pandemic began, many of us took solace in streaming. Many of us still are! But last spring, we were all in the same boat, all adjusting to quarantining, all watching Tiger King.
Netflix’s documentary series about the colorful personalities, petty infighting, and violent crimes of the strange subculture of people who own and display big cats took the country by storm. A year and a half before Squid Game took over, viewers could not get enough of Joe Exotic’s outrageous personality and Carole Baskin’s potentially murderous past, and now the streaming service is bringing the gang back together for another go-round.
Even with Exotic in jail, and multiple fictional retellings of the series in production, Netflix is doubling down with even more big cat content with a sequel series set to debut on November 17th, just in time for the holidays.
Exotic is incarcerated but that doesn’t mean he’s done talking, particularly about Baskin, who is buying the zoo Exotic left behind. Unfortunately, Baskin herself declined to participate, perhaps because she was sick of being accused of murdering her husband, or perhaps she just didn’t want to spend another few months getting relentlessly memed.
Here’s the official synopsis: “With Joe Exotic behind bars and Carole Baskin closing in on ownership of his disreputable zoo, the Emmy-nominated saga continues its twisted course with Tiger King 2 as newfound revelations emerge on the motivations, backstories, and secrets of America’s most notorious big cat owners. Old enemies and frenemies, including Jeff Lowe, Tim Stark, Allen Glover, and James Garretson return for another season of murder, mayhem, and madness. Thought you knew the whole story? Just you wait.”
