We finally have a premiere date for The Mandalorian on Disney+. Season one was a bonafide hit for Disney and was the anchor to the launch of their streaming service. Baby Yoda (yes, yes we know it’s The Child) quickly became a cultural sensation and the show was legitimately good, and easily the best Star Wars production since Disney took the reins (and arguably the best live-action Star Wars since the original trilogy).
Baby Yoda was the breakout star of season 1, and you better hope you get a great return on a puppet that costs $5 million. He started showing up in street art around the world, became a cereal, was a hit at Build-A-Bear, and even became a fun cocktail. And while we don’t have a Season 2 trailer, the end of season one made it pretty clear The Child will be a big part of the series this season. And for confirmation, the logo of the show, which had previously included only Din, The Mandalorian, now includes The Child as well.

Season two drops on October 30th. This is the day. And while we don’t have a trailer yet, we do know a lot (well, some) about what’s slated. Season 1 ended with Giancarlo Esposito’s character, Moff Gideon, failing in his attempt to acquire The Child and eliminate The Mandalorian. But he wasn’t killed in his efforts, either, as we saw him escape a Tie Fighter in the most badass way possible, with an iconic weapon from the animated world of Star Wars, the infamous Darksaber, an ancient Mandalorian weapon.
We also know the general plot of season two. The series 1 finale involved Mando running into The Armorer, who engraved a new clan symbol on his armor and saying until The Child is of age or reunited with its own kind, Din would be its father. So, it sounds like the next season will be about trying to get him home (or even finding out where that home would be). We should also learn a lot more about Esposito’s Moff Gideon and how he came to possess the Mandalorian Darksaber.
In casting news, maybe the biggest (ok it’s not) news is Bill Burr reprising his role as a bounty hunter slash gangster. In bigger casting news, Rosario Dawson is playing Ahsoka Tano, a fan-favorite from the animated Rebels and Clone Wars series. Anakin Skywalker’s former padawan will be bringing another Force user to the mix. We’ll also be seeing the return (albeit reportedly brief) of everyone’s favorite bounty hunter from the original trilogy, Boba Fett. And we’ll supposedly be seeing Fett’s Mandalorian armor on another actor, Timothy Olyphant of Justified fame.
Other well-known characters from the Star Wars universe could be making appearances as well. But we do know we’ll get a lot of our favorite father figure/Yoda figure duo, as Mando and The Child make their way through a galaxy far, far away.
